Update 04-03-2007
Rare Breed has been going through some changes with a new two speed transmission and nitrous oxide being added. Some oil
leaks prevented the car from being able to run up until now. This car was at the AMC Regional Drag Races to held at Cherokee County Drag Strip in Rusk Texas April 21, 2007.

Update 08-11-2006
Since the following post, this car has had carburetion changes and had Nitrous Oxide added. The horsepower had been raised
to more than 1,000 horsepower. This car is expected to run considerably faster, possibly in the low 9 second range and close
to 150 MPH.
On May 27, 2005 this car was run for the first time conservatively to iron out the "bugs." On it's very first run it
clocked an ET of 10.51 for the 1/4 mile. Problems with the throttle (wouldn't open to full throttle) and a steering problem
prevented the car from completing any other runs. Updates on this car will be posted as events develop.
This is an all AMC powered AMX with an engine built by legendary AMC engine builder Herman Lewis. The dual carbs on this 401 cubic inch V8 have a
total combined CFM of 2100 (two 1050 CFM Holley Dominators).

More information! August 11, 2006
Rare Breed is believed to be a former Trans Am Race Car built by AMC but no
one is certain about whether it ever was used as a Trans Am car or not. Here are a few facts:
It has a fiberglass firewall
It has no fresh air vents
It has no holes for windshield wipers
The back of the car is all fiberglass
The only VIN number is on the frame
According to someone who looked up the VIN # said that the car was made in the first week of August 1970 for the 1971
Model. It had a black interior, yellow paint outside wth a V-8 motor. No motor displacement listed. The weight was 2,800
pounds!
Other information for this car indicates it may have been one of 5 Trans Am Race Cars built for races in the 1970s. There
were only 5 cars built for these races. Three (3) of them were red/white/blue and the other two (2) were yellow.
This car should have been destroyed after the race season that ended in 1971. It would seem that this car somehow
survived.
